Disasters can strike without warning, but being prepared helps ensure you and your family can manage a bad situation. Local officials may not be able to reach everyone immediately after an emergency, making it vital to be ready to take care of yourself for several days.

Act Now: 3 Steps to Preparedness

1. Make a Plan

Because families may not be together when a disaster strikes, create a plan that includes how you will connect and where you will meet.

  • Establish Communication: Plan how to contact each other if services are down.

  • Prepare for Pets: Ensure pets have identification and plan for pet-friendly shelters.

2. Build an Emergency Kit

  • Stockpile supplies to last for at least 72 hours.

3. Stay Informed

Know the risks in your area, such as hurricanes, wildfires, or floods.

  • Sign Up for Alerts: Receive emergency notifications from your state or municipality.
